Hi John,
Mark here. I would love to collaborate with you on a version of this Drawboy.
I have a test piece here:

It runs in the Browser and uses Web.serial (you need to be running the Chrome browser).
Its also written entirely in python (Using pyscript). The link above goes to the running program and its editor environment - so you can see all the code before you hit Connect.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could see if it connects to your compudobby.

All I have so far is just the connection code.

I really like your approach to checking for the right serial connection. Brilliantly simple really.
I am current maintainer - in a fashion - of pyweaving and you can find my online weaving tools (slowly growing) here:
